The Database of Composers & Works is a project that was started many years ago, and was orignally served via a Microsoft ASP server. In the original system, users could not edit their accounts, but had to submit a form that would be entered by an administrator.
In the spirit of the guild, and to defray long term costs and maintenance, the database was ported to Linux, and is now hosted on a blazingly fast Apache Tomcat server. The updated databse offers the ability for users to login and edit their listings, bio, etc.. However, the database is still limited in functionality, and does not have the ability to host images, documents (scores) or audio. In addition the user interface is very minimal.
With the recent development of CMS systems, such as Joomla, the ability to setup a complex user system with associated databases has now become easier than ever. CGNJ has adopted Joomla as it's CMS of choice, and combined with Community Builder, we are in the process of developing a new system, called the CGNJ WorksBase.
Once a composer member registers an account, they are able to setup a composer profile, which is viewable by visitors. Users may also add events, such as concerts, lectures, masterclasses etc...
